Alison Litchfield | Founding Teacher, Certified Rolfer®, YogaAlliance®, Author of Roots & Wings: A Woman’s Guide to Embodying the Midlife Passage, Midlife Mentor

Alison Litchfield is an author, E-RYT 500 Yoga Instructor with over 30 years of teaching experience, Certified Rolfer®, and Rolf Movement–inspired practitioner. She began practicing yoga in Boulder in 1990—back when Boulder was still weird, and yoga was, too—drawn to the practice as a way to soften intensity and reconnect with the body.

Alison’s teaching is shaped by a Middle Path approach to yoga learned from her first teacher, Richard Freeman, emphasizing balance between effort and ease, structure and awareness. This orientation invites students to listen to and understand the subtle body rather than push or perform, allowing the practice to unfold with intelligence and awareness.

Over the past 3 decades, Alison’s path has evolved through both personal loss and profound life transitions, deepening her understanding of yoga as a lived practice, not just something you do on the mat. Her classes blend intelligent flow, clear alignment, and subtle-body awareness, informed by many years of experience as a Rolfer and yoga mentor. Her teaching style is deeply influenced by her hands-on work with fascia and her understanding of how releasing physical holding patterns can support nervous system regulation. Drawing from multiple lineages and modalities, she brings a thoughtful, inquiry-based approach to sequencing and creates supportive, curious spaces where students are invited to slow down, feel more, and trust their own inner guidance—on and off the mat.
